On May 28th my in-laws celebrated 51 years of marriage! Yoohooo! they are a very special couple. When they were teenagers my father-in-law followed my mother-in-law home from a dance. She was with another guy but had caught his eye. After her date left, he knocked on the door, when she answered the door asked her out. You guessed it, she said yes! She said yes again six weeks later and they have been happily married ever since.
For a 51st celebration “the family” decided to rent a log cabin in Maggie Valley NC. There are 13 of us on this adventure. 9 adults, 2 teens and 2 babies. So far we have laughed, laughed and then laughed some more! I’d like to tell you about the bear we saw, but we didn’t see one. Or I could tell you about the five-mile hike we went on but the only hiking we have really done is numerous trips up and down the steps at the cabin. I could tell you about the ridiculously huge shopping spree we went on in down town Waynesville – what a metropolis – But here is all we bought: My future daughter in-law bought a set of pink flamingo salt and pepper shakers, Paw Paw bought a couple of cigars, I bought a bible, my wife bought us some fudge – regular and sugar-free (I would not recommend the sugar-free – just live dangerously – life is short) and we bought a six-pack of diet Mountain Dew, to off set the regular fudge. Big spenders aren’t we?!
So, what have we done? Man, have we talked. From several small groups to lunch and supper time conversations with every one included. Literally we watched the sun come up over coffee and conversations! Nothing like drinking coffee with family and friends at 6am while sitting out on the deck as we are being amazed by God’s handiwork.
As we enjoyed each others company while we sat on the deck, you could see the glow of the sun as it raced across the wooded mountain side glistening on the breeze as if God was speaking to us through a light show. The little creek that runs by the cabin sounds like a gushing rapid and the smell of fresh air is so reviving! Between the laughter of children, birds chirping, grasshoppers singing and leaves rustling, God has provided a most relaxing concert for us to enjoy! (Thank you Father!)
I miss being at church today and being with my church family. They are so important to me, one of the true loves of my life. Like my family here in this cabin, they both remind me that in heaven we will enjoy being the perfect family in the perfect place with the perfect Father.
