I Was Just Thinking … About the Man Who Wanted to be King!

While I often steer clear of political news, especially the presidential race, something happened this past week that reminded me of a Biblical principle and a Biblical story.

The principle is this: Being the best for God, yourself, your family or your career, you must be committed. Really committed. Consistent dedication, using everything you are and everything you have.

The Biblical story: King Saul. Saul, wanted to be King of Israel. He wanted it badly. The Bible even says that he look the part! “A head taller that anyone else,” strong and rugged. He knew how to politic, he knew how to get the attention of the masses and stir up the crowds. He knew the right people and said the right things. He appeared to be a man of the people. You can read his story in I Samuel chapter 9. What you will find is a man who wanted to be King, but didn’t really want the responsibility of leading his people, the nation of Israel.

People often want fame and fortune, but do not want the responsibility that goes with it. What they are really about is themselves. It is funny how people who get a little power, a little fame and fortune forget even the basic principles of life – “love thy neighbor as thy self.” Or how about this – “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

Donald Trump has teased the American people for over twenty years about running for President of the United States of America. He says he going to run and then backs out.

Now I don’t know if he is really qualified to lead this nation. I don’t know if he is smart enough, or has the right decision-making skills or if he could hire a good staff to help him.

This I do know …. he’s not really committed!

To the man who would be king – president, it takes more than smarts, money and influence. It takes dedication.

Maybe Colossians 3:17 could Mr. Trump.

My mom said Donald Trump said he would run for president if no one else was good. Apparently he decided not to run because Herman Cain is so awesome!
