That’s what I was thinking this morning when, as I was walking my dog, I noticed that a row of green beens had sprouted up from undernath the soil at least two inches over night! Just last night I looked and nothing had broken through the soil yet. It was exciting to see something that I planted grow so fast! But how fast was did it grow? Yes, two inches over night is great, but a lot happened before that.
Lets examine this for a moment. The spot where the sprouts are growing, used to be a rock hard, walked down, nothing growing, unused area of our yard. But I thought the spot had potiental so I began to prep the soil for growth or usefulness. (Hope that’s a word) During this process thoughts of what it could be raced through my mind with the vision getting bigger by the thought! A tilled up spot of unused yard for a row cucumber plants soon gave way to a raised garden bed that now is sporting cucumbers, radishes, green beans and bell peppers. What once was useless and dead is now alive and productive.
That “over night” growth was actually about a month or so in the making. To my impatient mind thats a long, long time! But it got me to thinking about what Jesus is doing in my life. I also was once barren, dead and not much good for anything. But Holy Spirit of God brought me into a relationship with my Saviour, Jesus. It was the Holy Spirit that “prepped” my heart for the seed of Jesus’ love and salvation. My sprouting (that is growing in Jesus) is the new life I have in Him! My raised bed garden is my church. The other spouts are my church family growing along side of me. Together we are producing fruit for the royal banquet. (Marriage supper of the Lamb) Sometimes it seems like we are not growing at all. Then suddenly there is new life or new fruit!
I pray that you are planted in Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the World. I pray that you are planted in a growing, nurturing church that is producing fruit. (That’s bringing people to Jesus for Salvation) Most of all I pray that if you do not have a relationship with Jesus that today, even now you’ll stop what you are doing and ask Him into your life to be your Saviour and forgiver of your sins. He will accept you as you are and then transform what once was dead into a new, living person. God Bless You!
